There are many video games based on the Jurassic Park movies. Some are good, some are bad, and some you wonder how they ever worked in the past. We’re here to save you time by telling you what the five best games inspired by the franchise are.

Jurassic Park remains one of the most popular film franchises in the world. Since the original film was released in 1993, there have been six official sequels, a short film called The Battle of Big Rock and an animated series called Jurassic Cretaceous Camp.

There’s also a Jurassic World board game, four different versions of pinball, and Microgaming’s official Jurassic Park and Jurassic World slots, where fans of the franchise can try free spins on Canadian casino sites like Playamo.

Top 5 Jurassic Park video games of all time

That’s on top of nearly 50 (you read that right) video games released on every platform from early versions of the Nintendo Entertainment System to modern consoles, PCs, and even mobile devices. With a catalog of this size, it’s not surprising that some are better than others.

Here is a list of the top five Jurassic Park video games:

1. Lost World Jurassic Park (arcade, first person shooter, 1997)

This video game was not released on a console that you could use at home; rather, it was an arcade game that cost 50 cents a turn. This fact is important because it explains why this game worked so well.

It is a shooting game in which the player must travel from one crisis to another, reaching Jurassic Park and making his way to safety. It was a lot of fun, because that’s exactly what people would try to do if there was a bunch of dinosaurs running around, but it’s also what they couldn’t do in the movie.

That’s because you always know the main character is going to survive, so there’s no suspense. But when it’s just you and your last 50 cents, surviving and slaughtering as many dinosaurs as possible suddenly becomes an incredibly stressful activity.

2. Jurassic Park (Sega Genesis, platformer, 1993)

While a modern take on the game clearly shows its flaws, 28 years ago on the Sega Genesis (or Mega Drive for readers outside North America) it was a marvel. The maximum memory size of a Genesis cartridge was only about 4 MB, which didn’t leave developers much room to maneuver.

However, the developers at BlueSky Software have done an incredible job of building content into this game. You can play as Dr. Alan Grant, trying to avoid the dinosaurs to get to the visitor center, or as a velociraptor trying to eat Dr. Grant.

The two playing styles are also very different: Dr. Grant has numerous stun guns and darts at his disposal, while Predator relies solely on agility and instinct. The levels are also cleverly designed, allowing you to make the most of each character’s strengths. The expression old but good has never been more appropriate than in this case. Today, however, it would be very difficult to play it unless you have an old Genesis or can get your hands on an emulator.

3. Jurassic Park: Genesis Control (PC and console, control simulation, 2003)

The only real criticism of this game is that it took so long to make. Despite the obvious popularity of the Jurassic Park series, it took almost 10 years for a video game to come along that allowed players to build their own dinosaur park. Given the quality of the game, you could say it was worth the wait, but why did it take so long?

Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis is a building and management simulation that allows players to create the park of their dreams. The only real goal of the game is to build a 5-star theme park with various rides and dinosaurs, and the rest is left to your imagination.

The game feels a little dated and was already outdated by the next installment, but it’s a fantastic game that fans have wanted for a long time, so it’s more than deserved for a spot on this list.

4. Jurassic World Evolution (PC and console, management simulation, 2018)

The name of this game is appropriate, as it is in almost every way an evolution of how Genesis works. It’s also a fleet management simulator, but this title is much more than that, adding to its depth and immersion.

Not only are stakeholders responsible for building a quality park, but they must now carefully weigh budgets, conduct research and development, and ensure the safety of their visitors. The game also features over 40 different types of dinosaurs and crisis moments where dinosaurs can escape.

Overall, this is an excellent game that should be a must for anyone who has ever wanted to build their own Jurassic park.

5. Lego Jurassic World (PC, Console and Mobile, Plattformer, 2015)

Like LEGO Marvel before it, LEGO Jurassic World contains all the footage from the Jurassic Park movies that were released at the time.

The problem with most LEGO video games is that their first offering (LEGO Star Wars) was so good that everything they’ve done since pales in comparison. LEGO’s Jurassic World marked this trend, and may have even set a new standard for LEGO conversion games.

What’s new is that players can not only actively play as various humanoid characters, but also as almost any dinosaur that appears in any of the movies.

In addition, the puzzles are designed so that players aren’t just playing the same game in a different format when they change characters or dinosaurs. They really take the time to think about how that particular character or dinosaur can solve the puzzle.

It’s a gem that kids will love, and that adults will love as long as they can get past the slightly childish aesthetic and corny jokes that can’t be avoided in a LEGO title.
