Are you looking for a better projector with a budget of 200, 300 or less? Less than £500? Read my reviews below and learn more about the prices! + Don’t buy the projector without reading my manual below!
When home cinema became available for the domestic market, projectors were unaffordable for many people. To date, a range of projectors is available at prices to suit all budgets. As with all household appliances, the potential buyer has to do his or her own research to find the model that best suits his or her needs and the available space. Although retail lighting sold in stores for less than £200 can perform very well, it would be unreasonable to expect it to meet the standards of more expensive equipment.
Average price range
Those who are willing to pay between 200 and 500 pounds for a projector should also do their research. Spotlight, like most things, you get the value of your money. Therefore, in this price range it is not superfluous to expect a good experience with a 3D and wireless connection with different devices. Connecting devices such as Xbox, iPhone, PS4 etc. should be easy. Buyers can expect perfect performance in terms of brightness, colour, sound reproduction, mounting quality and ease of adjustment, especially if they are close to the top of the price range. The following comments should help in making a reasonable choice.

Projectors and their various applications
Before buying a projector, it is important to understand that there are several things you can do with the projector. That’s why we thought it was important to separate the most commonly used projectors to get an idea of what’s needed for each projector. If you don’t see the projector you want to use, you can leave a message or send us an email for further assistance.
If you need to be able to move the projector from one place to another when you choose a projector, a portable projector is the most efficient. Usually these projects are small, you can carry them in one hand and even put them in a backpack to carry them. They are also lightweight, making them ideal for travellers who have to constantly move their equipment from one place to another.
Compared to house models, these projectors are the smallest on the market and are recommended for presentations for small groups of people or where space is limited.
The home cinema projector projects some of the largest images. Some of them can project images 36 times larger than a 50-inch TV. The main application of this type of projector is to create your own home theater, and they offer excellent detail in dark tones. They have good color saturation and offer high quality image quality, making games and movies more exciting.
These projectors work best when you can control lighting both indoors and outdoors, as they help simulate an authentic movie environment. However, some of these projectors allow you to adjust the brightness of the image, which can be useful if you have little or no control over the backlight. Combined with an investment in a reflective screen, the overall quality of your experience is improved, regardless of the environment.
Some home theatre models are equipped with HDMI ports for easy connection and are designed for good picture quality when used on large screens. Another important feature of these projectors is that their coolers are quiet, which helps to reduce background noise, so you can enjoy games and movies without unnecessary noise.
This type of projector is most advantageous for people with a commercial or business objective. Most of these models are even brighter than a theatre projector and are specifically designed to move data and multimedia projects such as spreadsheets and more. When most of the light in the room comes from windows or other external sources, these projectors are of superior quality, making them the best choice for classrooms and large conference rooms.
Although these projectors are designed to work with static images such as slides or images, they can still be used to watch video and general entertainment. These models always have at least one HDMI port, so you can connect them directly to a device such as a laptop to transfer images.
They are not as small as a portable projector, but they are still small compared to a home cinema projector. Usually they are also equipped with some kind of Bluetooth or wireless technology, which makes configuration quick and easy.
Types of display or projection
It is important to note that there are different types of displays that the projector can have and that each type has its own drawbacks and advantages. To make the best decision, it is important to analyze them all to see which type of presentation best suits your needs.
As this is not a technical article, we will spare you the explanation of the procedures for each type of display, but if you need this information, we will point you in the right direction where you can find it to read it. However, we intend to focus clearly on the benefits and performance of each type of display.
DLP : This type of projector uses DLP technology, which uses small micro mirrors to create and focus the image by rotating a small wheel. They offer good image quality and the images they project are sharp and have an excellent response time. They always combine perfectly with the high colour contrast and black and white and blackest black.
L.C.’s: This type of projection screen uses silicon liquid crystal, an improved version of the LCD screen. However, they can only be found in high quality products. This type of screen combines the technology of LCD and DLP projectors, which means that it has good properties of both screens, such as smooth transitions in games and videos, excellent color saturation and good brightness.
LCD DISPLAY : This type of screen has no moving parts and you don’t have to worry about the configuration because it is automatic. For price reasons, LCD projectors use LCD displays, but their proper functioning requires constant maintenance of the filter. Moreover, compared to DLP projectors, this type of screen is more energy efficient, has a higher brightness, is quieter and provides a more detailed picture.
The first thing you should know is that the brightness of the projector is measured in lumens, and the higher the number of lumens, the brighter the projector is at different distances. Manufacturers usually set double brightness values at different distances to show the difference between projectors and to visualise which projector is best suited to your needs.
However, there are other specifications that need to be taken into account to determine the brightness that the projector is capable of. The colour brightness, i.e. the brightness of the projected yellow, blue and red colours, and the white glow, i.e. the amount of white light emitted by the camera and the brightness of that colour.
What does this mean in practice?
When you need a projector for professional situations, you usually want a higher light output, which helps to get a clearer picture, even in large, well-lit rooms.
Theatre projectors, on the other hand, are best when their brightness is higher than that of white. This makes the colors in the image more detailed and saturated. To make this possible, however, you need to be able to control the lighting in your area.
Clarity should be compared before the final decision is made, as it is a crucial factor in finding the right projection model for your needs.
What’s the contrast? It is used to measure the difference between the light and dark areas of each image.
Simplification of the contrast concept
Manufacturers use coefficients to quantify the contrast of the projectors. For example, you can find 500:1 or 1000:1. What does that mean? If the projector has a ratio of 1000:1, this means that the white color of the projector is 1000 times brighter than black. If the work has a higher contrast ratio, this means that the range of colours and details that the projector can project is larger.
When using home cinema projectors, it is important to take the contrast into account as the maximum level of detail is usually required to display the image. However, if you use a projector in a professional environment, the contrast is usually not important, as it is often used in very bright rooms, which of course reduces the contrast.
Whichever model you choose, it is recommended that you purchase a projector with a minimum contrast ratio of 500:1, as each model is lower and the displayed images are not accurate or satisfactory.
The resolution of the projector is very similar to that of Smart TVs. In principle, the resolution of the projector depends on the number of pixels that can be displayed. The more pixels or a higher resolution, the sharper the image and the more detail. If you plan to use projectors to watch movies, resolution is an important consideration because it allows you to get the optimal quality you need to watch movies. Once again, it is true that a solution is not a big problem for a business model.
There are different resolution ranges, from 800×600 to 4k. However, a resolution of HD (1280×720) or Full HD (1920×1080) is recommended because it gives the best results with a reasonable investment in equipment and projectors.
Connections: Entrances and doors
Although this is one of the last topics of this article, it does not mean that it is less important than the topics discussed earlier. It is important to understand the connectivity options available with projectors.
Before purchasing a projector, it is important to know and analyze what types of connectors and jacks are available for each model to ensure compatibility with other equipment you may be using. Each model is different depending on the type of connection it offers, but the most common connections supplied with the models are DVI, VGA, HDMI and USB.
Other inputs you can search for on the projector include mini USB ports, which allow you to connect directly to your smartphone, audio and video ports and Ethernet ports. Some newer models on the market may even be equipped with a USB-C port.
The most important thing is to make sure that the connections of the projector you buy match the inputs, that other devices you will use with the projector are compatible.
In addition to the basic functions, there are additional features that can make a big difference to the projector you need to purchase, and here are some of the more economical features.
3D technology : This feature is often used in home cinema projectors because it is possible to play 3D compatible media. Sometimes the technology is built in, but you can get a 3D emitter, which is usually sold separately.
Wireless projection : This technology allows you to connect to the same Wi-Fi network you use for your projection device, allowing you to stream media and video directly from the device to the projector. This technology usually requires special applications on a laptop or smartphone.
Raise the scale: This is not exactly an option, as most projectors are already equipped with this feature, with the exception of portable projectors. Still, it’s a good quality to make a note. This allows you to enlarge and reduce the image to make it easier and clearer to read without physically moving the camera.
The first step was to identify and examine the basic criteria that make one projector better than the others. To narrow down the list, we looked for some of the most recommended projectors that have worked well in international and national studies. We then filtered the results of up to 13 projectors that had the right characteristics and were well received in the UK market. Once that was done, we refined the other criteria to determine what was needed to be the best projector on the UK market.
If you are reading this article, you may wonder why there is no 4K projector on our list of the best, and there is a simple answer to that question. The answer is price. The price of the 4K projector is currently too high to be considered a good investment. Few of them support the 4K resolution, and those that are available are absurdly expensive. That’s why they don’t deserve to be listed because of their overwhelming price.
