At first glance, the LG Wing 5G looks like any other phone with an edge-to-edge display, side buttons, a perfectly rectangular design, an on-screen fingerprint display, a USB-C port, and more. It’s a thicker phone, in fact thicker than the LG Velvet in comparison.
When you switch to pivot mode, the 6.8-inch OLED display at the top of the phone rotates sideways and horizontally, revealing a smaller 3.9-inch mini-OLED display at the bottom. The 3.9-inch mini screen looks small by today’s standards and is slightly smaller in area than the 4-inch screen of the iPhone 5 or iPhone SE. It would be used for text messages and light navigation.
On the right side are a pair of volume buttons, and below that is the lock button. When the phone is closed, they’re not too hard to see, but when the screen opens immediately, the three keys are behind the screen, and it’s unnatural to press them. You can also forget which test is which test.
On the left side are the SIM and microSD slots. The USB-C port is hidden on the bottom, while the single speaker is on the right; the front microphone and pop-up camera are on the top. The LG Wing 5G selfie shooter recoils faster once the accelerometer detects that the phone has been dropped. The LG 5G Wing is not dust and waterproof according to the IP standard. What is still missing is a 3.5 mm headphone jack.

LG’s dual-layer LED display is unusual, but the quality of the display is high. The phone’s 6.8-inch panel has a resolution just north of Full HD and reaches 643 nits in the full-screen brightness test, even with adaptive brightness enabled. It’s larger than the iPhone 12’s 569 nits, and absolutely bright enough to look good on any screen. When you adjust the slider, the phone also increases the brightness of both screens simultaneously.
The wing’s main screen covers about 105% of the ICD-P3’s color space in natural color mode, translating colors into ones that glow but don’t burn your eyes from oversaturation. For those who need intense colors, some color profiles are available.
The other winged display uses a different OLED panel that has a more square image size, but the full resolution is identical around Full HD. Like the main screen, it operates at a 60Hz refresh rate, which makes it a bit outdated for its price. Galaxy S20 phones, for example, cost between $699 and $1,399 and have a refresh rate of 120 Hz.

The Wing has 5G capabilities. It is also compatible with frequencies below 6 GHz and 5G millimeter waves, and uses the Snapdragon 765G instead of the Snapdragon 865 or 865 2020.
The biggest problem is that the phone has to feed two screens. These displays can be used for two very different applications that require high processing power. If you are working in A + a mode (i.e., you are running an application on the main screen and a corresponding small application on the secondary screen), you are always running two applications. Since the LG Wing is a new concept, there aren’t many applications that generally make use of the dual display format.
The Snapdragon 765G is actually quite powerful. There is no application that freezes or is slow to run. Future software upgrades and changes to the dual screen could draw more power from Qualcomm’s high-end and midrange chipset. But after LG’s mixed history with Android updates, it’s not a good idea to count on these patches and fixes arriving any faster.

The battery capacity of the LG Wing is not large, but not small either. With Wing, you have an average battery experience. In general, battery life depends on how you use the hinge mode. When the phone is in basic mode, the subarea below the main screen is dark. Similarly, if you use the basic mode : The battery only powers the main screen.
However, if you use Rotate mode often, the battery must supply power to the main screen and secondary screen. Since the secondary panel is of similar quality and about half the size of the primary panel, battery life may suffer somewhat.
The kite is charged with a 25W charger and a USB-C cable. It can be charged wirelessly with 12W. With a corded charger, charging can take from zero to a maximum of about 75 minutes. There is no wireless charging on the back.

Nevertheless, the unusual form factor of the LG Fender offers a wide range of applications as a pseudo-cardan. LG has wisely followed suit by creating a full gimbal mode for the camera in pivot mode.
The wing has an excellent rear configuration with one main lens and two ultra-wide-angle lenses. Since one of the ultra wide angle lenses is in base mode and the other is in rotation mode, the ultra wide angle lens in base mode is compared to the standard lens and 2x optical zoom.
Gray weather and dark images don’t help showcase the beauty of this camera, but the differences between each shot are pretty impressive. The difference between the exposure of an ultra-wide-angle shot and that of a zoom lens is similar to day and night.
Two aspects of the LG Wing’s camera stand out while shooting: night vision and the standalone camera. Plus, selfie’s camera is great. Portrait mode seems completely artificial, but the typical self-timer results are exceptional.

When the phone is in recording mode, the normal photo application is hidden and only the new video application is opened. The lower display shows the surface of the cardanic regulator. You can grip the lower screen with one hand and use your thumb to mimic gimbal control while filming a landscape video and use the main screen as a viewfinder.
For the videographers, it’s going to be huge. Filming with one hand in landscape mode is a bad idea, no matter how much stabilization is present; the images will always look shaky. But once your hand has mastered the average weight of the phone and the stabilizing properties of the LG wing, you can achieve fantastic results.
Besides smooth and gimbaled shots, there are a few other intriguing tricks when applying the camera’s rotation mode. You can simultaneously record video with the stand-alone camera and the rear camera. You can also decide if you want to save each file separately for editing. You can even save the file containing the images from the rear camera as the main video, while the images from the standalone camera are saved in the box in the bottom right corner.
LG Wing is a videographer’s dream come true. The camera is not the best, but the dual screen format is a real turning point in terms of video recording on smartphones. You don’t need to carry a heavy gimbal to get beautiful, smooth videos; just switch to pivot mode and start recording.

The LG Wing may not be the most elegant or powerful phone in the world, but it is certainly a unique device. The Wing allows you to use your phone in ways you never thought possible. And this is a common trend with standout phones like the Microsoft Surface Duo. The problem is that in his quest for a dual display, he makes certain suggestions regarding image quality, performance, and increasing battery capacity while charging. LG may have taken significant risks with the wing, but the problem is that those risks have not materialized.
frequently asked questions
Is the LG wing worth it?
This phone can provide smart and useful software experiences thanks to its original design and gimbaled camera. Unfortunately, our review of the LG Wing found that its high price and relatively poor performance, photo quality and battery life kept it from moving higher on our list of top phones.
What is the purpose of the LG wing?
The wing has a pretty interesting rear camera configuration with a 64 megapixel main camera, a 13 megapixel ultra-wide camera and a 12 megapixel ultra-wide camera with a large pixel. According to LG, there is also the Gimbal Motion Camera feature, which allows a second screen to be used for shooting and provides a number of features for the 12-megapixel camera.
LG 5G Wing?
The LG Wing 5G is indeed capable of operating in 5G, sub-6 and mmWave for the US versions sold by Verizon. The LG Wing 5G comes with a 4,000 mAh battery, which is about average among the leading phones.
