Start CHKDSK analysis

Any problem with a conventional or solid-state drive can also result in a runtime error (83:120) : For some users, the Proc message cannot be accessed.

  2. Now type Chkdsk X in the command prompt window:

OPINION: Here, X is the drive letter corresponding to your computer’s hard disk partition (the one you want to check with CHKDSK). This is followed by the parameters that CHKDSK should use to perform the verification. Then press the Enter key.

When you run the CHKDSK utility from the extended command line, you can use any of the following parameters:

/f – Tells CHKDSK to fix any errors it finds.

/r – Tells CHKDSK to find bad sectors on the hard drive and attempt to recover all readable information from those sectors.

/x – Instructs CHKDSK to disconnect the selected disk before it is scanned.

  • The last command you enter on the extended command line is the following:

CHKDSK D: /f /x (if you want CHKDSK to shut down your computer’s D drive and then find and fix errors).

Or

CHKDSK C: /f (if you want CHKDSK to find errors on your C drive and try to fix them).

  • Now wait until the CHKDSK scan is finished. It will then try to fix most of the errors on your system. After that try to install the malware bytes and see if the problem is solved or not.

Perform CFS and DISM scan

Most likely you are dealing with some kind of system corruption, which also causes a runtime error (83:120): failed to call proc. In this case, it is recommended to carry out the FCS and DISM analyses one after the other. This is done as follows,

  • If you passed both scans, try installing Malwarebytes and check for runtime errors (83:120): The process error cannot be corrected or remains.

Troubleshooting certificate problem

If your computer reports that the Malwarebytes certificate needed to install the utility is an untrusted certificate, this can sometimes result in a runtime error (83:120): Impossible to relay the proc message.
